Review of Tetherberry: Use your Blackberry to Access the Internet on your Laptop

Tetherberry is a utility that allows you to use your Blackberry Laptop Battery phone’s data service plan to access the internet on your laptop anywhere you have a data signal. Let’s take a closer look so we can learn more about Tetherberry and understand what exactly tethering means.

Introduction

Normally, tethering is somewhat battery complicated because it can be pretty difficult to configure your phone and laptop for the correct settings. It can take hours or even days to configure the proper settings depending on your device and your PC. Luckily Tetherberry makes it possible in just few minutes, you just need a data service plan on your Blackberry, a USB cable to connect your BB to your laptop and of course you will have to install Tetherberry both on your Blackberry and your laptop. You will also have to install Blackberry Desktop Manager on your laptop battery to complete the process. After you have installed Tetherberry dell laptop battery there is no need to do any other settings on your Blackberry or on your laptop and everything else is handled by this useful application. You might wonder whether the internet connection speed with Tetherberry is good enough or not. I must tell you, it is not as fast as your broadband connection but it is acceptable and you will be able to check your e-mail, run Yahoo messenger, open light websites and attach small files with your mail. Let's have a brief look on the installation, inner working and main features of this application.

Installation, Working dell Inspiron 6400 battery and Main Features of Tetherberry

You can download Tetherberry for USD 60.00 from the following link:

http://www.tetherberry.com/

There are two components of the setup file, one for the laptop and another one for your Blackberry Smartphone. Both of these components are easy to install and will take just a few minutes.

The Blackberry setup will be provided to you from the Tetherberry website via a SMS that will automatically install the program when you open it. Once the installation finishes you will be prompted to connect your laptop with your Blackberry device via a USB cable in case you haven’t done that initially. Before you start using the internet via the Tetherberry battery application you should turn off any other dell Inspiron E1505 battery active internet connections to avoid any conflicts.

After you do this you will be asked to start the application and a message will be displayed on you laptop screen showing you the status of your connection and number of packets sent and recieved.

You will then be asked to connected to the Tetherberry website to load some necessary plug-ins and after you do this you are connected to the internet. Now you can start using the internet and open up your browser to see if it works or not. Mine worked just fine and I was able to open my Internet Explorer’s home page easily. It took a little more time than usual but I was able to check my mail and opened some websites without any difficulty.

Considering the difficulties I faced with tethering my dell GD761 battery Blackberry with my laptop before I downloaded this application, it was fast and a piece of cake. While I was connected I was able to use all the other features of my Smartphone without any hassle. I tried using this connection while traveling in the car, on my roof and in battery my office and it displayed excellent results. However, my connection broke once or twice when I was in my basement office, pointing out that my phone connectivity broke with the tower of my service provider and an error message was displayed on my screen before I reconnected again.

As I have told you before the connection speed is not excellent, by that I mean its not broadband speeds but it certainly beats the dial-up or GPRS connections that have been mostly abandoned by cellular carriers these days. But it did show some variations with the signal strength of my service provider but this change was negligible. You can also watch streaming video at low resolution, but don’t try it at higher resolutions because you will be disappointed.

Another thing I was hoping was that I would be able to tether my BB and laptop through a Bluetooth connection as well, however so far there is no such provision for this option in the dell KD476 battery application and you will have to stick with the USB cable. Maybe the developers at Tetherberry battery will try to establish this goal in future versions.

Another drawback I noticed was that Tetherberry doesn’t work on Mac systems.

Finally I highly recommend using an unlimited data plan from your cellular provider, if that isn't an option you should keep an eye on your data transfer from your service provider and be sure that you are not charged absurd amounts to use the data connection.

Final Verdict

Tetherberry offers an easy dell TD347 battery and hassle-free set up and internet connection that is fairly fast to use (much faster than your GPRS or a dial-up connection). But you will also have to pay a heavy price (USD 60.00) for this application and I am sure you can find some nice free open source applications like Tetherberry if you search the internet for long enough.

Also, there are some minor flaws like no Bluetooth connectivity, no compatibility with Mac OS systems and no data transfer counter provided with the application.

Otherwise, if you desperately need to be stay connected to the internet while you are on the move, it is a good substitute for your GPRS connection and the hassle of dell Inspiron 1000 battery self-configuring your devices for tethering purposes.

Best MSI Wind Netbooks

In addition to Asus and Acer, MSI was also among the first PC manufacturers who dived into the netbook dell laptop battery market earlier than other companies. To date, MSI has released three MSI Wind series - the U90, U100, and U120 Wind series. Find out which of these three MSI Wind netbooks is the best.

MSI Wind U90

The MSI Wind U90 never really made quite a mark in the market when it was released. In fact, if my memory serves me right, the Wind U90 never really got an official release in the U.S. market. That's why immediately after releasing it, MSI decided to release the MSI Wind U100. The MSI Wind U90 boasts battery of the following features:

Processor: Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz

OS: Novell SUSE Linux Multi-languages

Display: 8.9 WSVGA LCD

Graphics: Intel GMA950

System Memory: 512MB DDR2

HDD: 80GB SATA I

Communications: Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, WLAN Card, Bluetooth

Camera: .93 MP webcam

Considering Laptop Battery that it already has the Atom processor, the MSI Wind U90 would have been made some splash had it been released earlier or almost the same time as Asus released the Eee PC 901. Unfortunately, when MSI released the Wind U90, Asustek and Acer were already prepping up their 10-inch netbooks.

MSI Wind U100

Again, MSI was a little late in coming out with an upgraded battery Wind netbook. The Wind U100 came in just when the Eee PC 1000 series was starting to make a splash in the market. Still, MSI pushed through and gave Asus some tough competition with the MSI Wind U100. Officially, there have been 6 variants of the Wind U100 released in the U.S. so far. All six of these Wind U100 netbooks sport almost the same features and specs except for differences in either the color or HDD capacity. But generally these six Wind U100s boast of the following features dell Inspiron 8500 battery and specs:

Processor: Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz

Display: 10" Widescreen LCD

OS: Windows XP Home

System Memory: 1GB DDR2

Graphics: Intel GMA950

Camera: 1.3 webcam

Communications: Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, WLAN Card, Bluetooth

Battery: 3-cell Battery (2.5-3 hours)

The MSI Wind U100 currently retails for around $349. At that price point, despite having only the Intel Atom N270, it is still a dependable netbook that would answer every road warrior's need for mobile computing, portability, power and performance. The only letdown dell 8N544 battery about the MSI Wind U100 is its 3-cell battery pack which only yields up to 2.5 to 3 hours battery usage time. But you can always find an optional battery upgrade which will give you extended computing time. That is, if you don't mind spending additional bucks.

MSI Wind U120

Released recently is the latest MSI Wind model, the U120. Like its predecessor, the U120 also has several model variants. The first two, U120-001US and U120-024US both sport an Intel Atom N270 CPU. Later on, MSI released new variants of the Wind U120 now sporting the faster Intel Atom N280 CPU and equipped with the exclusive MSI EasyFace (Face Identification software). MSI has also improved the Wind U120 series' audio built-in high-performance 2 Channel Stereo Speakers. Other than battery these two enhancements, the specs of the U120 Wind series are practically the dell Inspiron 8600 battery same as the Wind U100. The MSI Wind U120 series currently sells for around $429.

Design Rating

The HP Mini 110 is not as Sleek as the Mini 1000, but is much better than some of the netbooks flooding the marketplace. With dimensions of 10.3 x 6.8 x 1.3 inches and a weight of 2.6 pounds, it is both thicker and heavier than its predecessor. It is battery available in 3 colors - black, white and pink with a trendy swirl imprint. The overall look of the Mini 110 is very stylish, it has a business notebook like feel.

Display and Speakers Rating

The HP Mini 110 has a standard 10.1 inch display with a native resolution of 1024 x 576 pixels. The display quality is pretty good with nice brightness and contrast. Being an antiglare dell MM165 battery display, you can see it clearly even under bright lighting conditions and outdoors. It is perfect for watching movies and videos while on the move.

The Mini 110 also sports a set of tiny speakers which do an impressive job in terms of pumping out clear sound. The volume levels are battery pretty high and easily audible in a small room. The sound quality is also quite good; you can use the speakers for casual music listening.

Keyboard and Touchpad Rating

The HP Mini 110 has a nice keyboard, which is just slightly smaller than a standard sized keyboard. The keyboard is very comfortable to use and the keys have a nice feel and offer decent feedback. It is one of the best netbook keyboards, but not as good as the dell YD626 battery Samsung N120's keyboard. Below the keyboard lies the touchpad which is a bit shorter than normal. The mouse buttons are placed next to the touchpad instead of below it and feel a bit awkward at first.

Performance Rating

There isn't much difference when it comes to performance battery in most of the netbooks released in the last few months. Almost all of them sport the same basic hardware configuration - Intel Atom N270 at 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 RAM and a 160 GB SATA HDD. It has an Intel 945 GSE chipset while the graphics are handled by the Intel GMA 950 onboard graphics with 128 MB VRAM. Bundled with Windows XP dell 312-0393 battery like all other netbooks, it is enough for basic tasks like viewing and editing office documents, video chat, surfing the web, watching movies etc.

Other Features Rating

The HP Mini 110 comes with a standard set of expansion ports - 3 USB 2.0, Ethernet, Headphone, Microphone, VGA and a 5 in 1 card reader. It is powered by a battery standard 3 cell battery which provides about 3 hours of battery life with standard usage. You can pump up that figure a little by switching off your Wi-Fi when not in use, lowering volume, lowering display brightness etc. You can also buy a 6 cell battery upgrade for an extra $40.

The HP Mini 110 is a very nice option for those on the lookout for a budget netbook. With the 6 cell battery dell Latitude D800 battery upgrade, it is one of the best options you have.

APC Back-UPS ES 750G Back-up Battery System Review (2)

Here's how one accesses the Threshold settings:

Plug the Back-UPS into power, but don't turn it on. It should be in standby dell laptop battery mode with no LEDs lit.

Press and hold Master/Enable for ten seconds. All the LEDs will then flash to indicate that it has entered programming mode.

Release Master/Enable. The LEDs will then indicate which threshold setting is being used.

Press Master/Enable to select a different threshold setting.

And the LED indications are:

Low (10 Watts) Master/Enable LED flashing.

Medium (25 Watts) Master/Enable and Online LED flashing. (This is the default.)

High (60 Watts) Master/Enable, Online, and Replace Battery LEDs flashing.

Hopefully you won’t need to alter these Laptop Battery settings, but if you do, there it is.

Results of Testing

Out of the box, the APC worked fine with the multimedia PC. We had to change the threshold settings in order to work with the laptop. Performance was spotty when the UPB-90 external battery was in line between the laptop and the APC, but removing it and resetting the threshold back to 25 Watts solved the problem with the additional drive in the laptop. The unit then correctly identified both hibernation and hybrid sleep (in Windows Vista) and worked with a satisfying CLUNK when it switched the controlled outlets off.

And, as a note, in normal operation, one does not need to get under one's desk to switch the unit on before starting the computer. Simply pressing Start on the PC causes the dell Inspiron 5100 battery APC to also apply power to the controlled outlets. It's very convenient in use.

Using the Software

Here are some of the PowerChute screens. "Runtime Configuration" is where you can adjust it to run your computer as long as battery possible, or shut down after some specified time when running on backup power. The "Performance Panel" shows events like power outages, under and over voltages, and line noise that happened in the past. The "Self-Test" screen checks on the operation of the device and the condition of the battery. It also has a link to order a new battery or to inform APC that you've installed a new one.

The "Notification Configuration" screen allows you to dell 6T473 battery specify the times that the device should remain silent, even in the event of a power interruption. This is handy if you live in a place that frequently has power fluctuations when you’re trying to sleep.

There are also user-selectable settings for sensitivity to line noise and voltage fluctuations.

Fit, Finish, and Design Rating

As Bright Hub reviewers have come to expect from APC, the fit, finish, and design battery of the ES 750G are excellent. It has long, full-length, functional vents on the sides. Four of the outlets are widely spaced for angle and overhanging end plugs, which seem to be becoming common (and commonly annoying) with cell phones and other small devices. Connections for DSL/phone/cable, the reset switch, and the power fault LED are all conveniently grouped on one end along with the main power cable. The other end is unadorned and elegant in its simplicity, and the LEDs are dell Inspiron 630m battery bright.

Dimensions

The unit weighs 10.36 lbs (4.7 kg) and is 3.5" high, 13.5" long, and 7.1" deep (88.3 x 342.7 x 180 mm).

Warranty

The unit is warranted for three years from the date of purchase. The customer should contact APC Tech Support for an RMA (return materials authorization) and should pay shipping to APC. APC will pay for ground shipment back, and the common practice is to replace the device with a remanufactured unit.

Conclusion

So there you have it - the Bright Hub dell Inspiron 640m battery review of the APC Back-UPS® ES 750G backup power supply. Should you consider spending $99.99 for this unit? Yes, if you have a need for a backup power supply and want to be eco-friendly while saving a little on your electrical bill, it's an excellent choice. It's a set it and forget it device that you won't normally have to spend much time thinking about. When needed, however, it will continue to run your PC and accessories for the time you've specified and even shut down your PC and controlled components when completely unattended.

We also found that it works as well with laptops as it does with desktop computers and that having three controlled outlets is enough for the peripheral components that need to dell Y9943 battery be powered during blackouts and brownouts.

Bright Hub gives the APC ES 750G an overall excellent rating and it carries our best battery recommendation. It is a product that works as advertised.

APC Back-UPS ES 750G Back-up Battery System Review (1)

The choice of connections can be further broken down. For example, a spinning hard drive Laptop Battery draws more power than an LCD monitor in sleep mode, so if forced to make a choice, an external drive would be a better candidate to use with a controlled outlet. That said, I think that the computer, monitor, and external drives will be the devices most likely to be used with the master and controlled outlets.

A further consideration involves whether the device is essential to the operation of the computer. Printers and scanners are not, so you wouldn't want them running when on backup battery power. (But you sure would want that monitor.)

Four other outlets are both surge-protected dell laptop battery and backed up, and these are located on the same row as the master outlet.

The two right-most outlets in the second row are surge-protected only. They are not backed up, and they will not provide power to battery accessories during a main power failure. These would be logical for a scanner or a printer. (If you need to use a printer or scanner during a power outage, you might need a backup generator.)

Software Installation Rating

The Back-UPS ES 750G comes with the venerable and respected PowerChute® Personal Edition version 2.0 power management program. It's compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. Version 1.5 for Windows 98 and ME are also included on the CD, as is version 1.33 for Mac OS X 10.3.x and 10.4.x.

The unit should be plugged in to the wall socket and have the USB cable from the power supply connected to the computer. The installation will abort if a supported APC backup power dell 6Y270 battery supply is not found.

The installation is pretty standard. The second step involves agreeing to the terms of service, and battery then it offers a default install location.

The installer provides the option of registering the device online in the final step. The model number and serial number for the device can be found on the outside of the box. There's also a printed, triple-fold registration sheet in the box that you can fill out and mail in. APC seems to be very interested in where, how, and with what equipment the Back UPS will be used.

An icon is then placed in the notification area (system tray). Right-clicking and selecting "Open Application" shows the main program dialog.

And here's what it looks like at dell 1X793 battery first run.

Operation and Use Rating

We tested the unit in several different configurations. One was with a multimedia desktop with one external hard drive, one external CD/DVD drive, a sound system, and LCD monitor. Another setup was a laptop with no external accessories. We also tried the laptop with an external CRT monitor. Finally, we tried the laptop with an APC UPB-90 universal battery extender plugged in between the laptop and the Back-UPS.

Using default settings, the device worked like a charm with the desktop PC. We tested with the external hard drive, monitor, and external CD/DVD drive plugged into the controlled outlets. The sound system was plugged into a surge/backup outlet, and we added two "power bricks" for cell phones in the surge only outlets. Shutting down Windows from the Start-Shut Down menu caused the Back-UPS to quickly shut down the accessories as well.

Results with the laptop were interesting. Between the start of testing and finishing, I had installed a new battery hard drive in the laptop and moved the existing hard drive to a caddy in the dell C1295 battery CD/DVD drive bay. After doing this, I was surprised to find that the Back-UPS failed to detect when the laptop was hibernated. I confirmed this by removing the hard drive and reinstalling the CD/DVD drive, and the Back-UPS worked normally. This called for some head scratching, as the "Master Enable" LED was lit, indicating the system remained active. The answer, of course, was in the User's Guide, and we'll include this in the review as it will be good information for laptop users.

If you are using the ES 750G with a laptop plugged into the Master (main) outlet and the APC fails to recognize when the laptop is hibernated or put to sleep, refer to the "Threshold Programming" section in the User's Guide. You could also conceivably have the opposite problem. A really low power device like a netbook could make the dell Inspiron 1100 battery Back-UPS think that it should shut off the controlled outlets even though the PC is still running.

10 Tips to improve your UMPC / Netbook experience

Leave a commentThe advent of UMPCs and Netbooks has taken Laptop Battery everyyone by storm. It never occurred to anyone that mini laptops with average (even below-average) performance could be so attractive. Here's some things you can do (and buy) to maximize your experience using your mini portable PC.

Netbook Tips

Here are some things you can do to make your experience with netbooks more enjoyable.

1. Don't upgrade the operating system

Unless it's necessary, upgrading the dell laptop battery embedded OS is not advisable. You can, however, downgrade it to gain some increase in performance. Since netbooks are designed for ultra-portable computing, they are not equipped with the fastest processor. So, downgrading from Vista to XP - for example - can give a performance boost.

2. Invest in a good laptop bag

Yes, I know you already got the matching sleeves when you purchased the machine. However, it can't accommodate your charger and other accessories that I mention next. Sure, it will still be useful for light traveling, but if you're really serious in making it your day-to-day companion, a decent laptop bag is the way to go. Since the market is pretty big now, well-known laptop dell Latitude D505 battery bag manufacturers will already have specific models for netbooks. As an alternative, you can opt for 12-inch laptop bags.

3. Buy a bigger capacity or secondary battery

A higher capacity battery may not be for everyone; however if you do much traveling, it's a blessing. If you don't like the fact that you're shelling out more cash, select the model with a hi-cap battery which can last around 4-6 hours. Do remember that extended batteries sometimes protrude from the body, so netbook sleeves may not be able to be used. See no.2 for the solution.

4. Set up a bigger monitor for home dell Latitude D510 battery use

The screen size in netbook ranges from seven to ten inches, and that's pretty small. If you often use the netbook at home or at the office, setting up an bigger external monitor is a good idea. Your eyes will thank you for that.

5. Don't run a lot of applications in the background

Netbooks are made for ultimate portability and aimed to be a second computer, so it's very different than your average desktop PC. Of course it's good to have all the applications that you usually have in the desktop here. However, it will put a toll in the performance. Be more selective and choose which apps run in the background, or uninstall ones that you rarely use.

More Netbook Tips

6. Get a good keyboard and mouse

The ultra portable size comes with a price, and it's the less spacious keyboard and touchpad. The most practical solution is to buy an external keyboard and mouse. Do remember that netbooks dell Latitude D520 battery can only use USB keyboards and mouses. If you travel a lot, you can consider fold out keyboards and notebook mice that are smaller and easier to bring.

7. It's a portable media player

With the new models packing large hard drives, it's time to ditch your portable media players. To transform your netbooks into a true PMP, you'll need to install several multimedia applications. For music, you can't go wrong with iTunes, or just use the installed Windows Media Player. For videos, K-Lite Codec Pack with Windows Media Player Classic is a reliable and free application that doesn't hog your system. Of course, you can always stream any videos or musics if an Internet connection is available.

8. Buy an external optical or hard drive

Even with multiple gigas, everybody dell Latitude D600 battery just can't seem get enough storage nowadays. External optical drives and external hard drives are getting cheaper everyday, so it's not considered an extravagant upgrade. If you still need to read CDs or DVDs, buying an external optical drive is a viable option. If you often switch between computers and need to carry your data with you, an external hard drive is the best way to go. Both peripherals can be found anywhere for less than US$100.

9. Give your netbook a distinctive appeal

Since it's relatively cheap, why not give your netbook a distinctive personality? You can add stickers or notebook tattoos that separate your netbook from tens of millions of dell Latitude D610 battery others. After all, it is not Clone Wars (yet). Be sure to choose stickers that can be peeled off easily and without leaving a mark.

10. Your netbook is a game center

OK, let's be very careful with this bragging. You won't be able to play the latest 3D games with the current models. However, if you're a bit of retro games' lover, this baby can satisfy your gaming urges. To play DOS-based games, install the DOSBOX application. For 3D games, you might want to install the 3DAnalyze dell 312-0068 battery application, which can run 3D games in machines without separate 3D graphics chips

How to Find Laptop Temperature

Leave a commentThis article will show you how to find out your laptop’s dell laptop battery temperature so that you can easily track and control it so as to optimize its operational performance and prevent damage.

The temperature of your laptop, once it rises above an optimum level, will significantly affect its operational performance. High laptop CPU temperatures result in sluggish response, and can cause your PC to reboot at random. In the extreme, it may even cause permanent physical damage to the laptop.

Any computer generates a great deal of heat from its normal operation, primarily from its hard drive and processors. For this reason, they are equipped with fans and vents to maximize airflow and get rid of the heat. When it comes to laptops, CPU temperature is a major concern because, unlike a desktop PC, the airflow on a laptop is highly restricted. Most notebooks are designed with small air vents located at the Laptop Battery side or the bottom of the machine. However, if these vents are obstructed, your laptop may still overheat.

It is, therefore, a good habit to get into the habit of regularly monitoring the temperature of your laptop on a regular basis, even if it is in perfect working condition or brand new. The safest maximum temperature that any given laptop can bear will differ based on the particular design and specifications of the laptop. Find out your laptop’s safest operating temperature from your laptop manufacturer’s instruction manual, and maintain it at or below that temperature.

Pre-Installed Programs

Today, most laptops dell 312-0305 battery come bundled with software that is designed to serve as a temperature monitor or sensor that tracks and monitors your laptop’s temperature. Before you purchase a third party application or hardware, check to see whether your laptop’s manufacturer has such an application pre-installed for monitoring CPU temperature. Follow the program’s instructions to track your laptop’s temperature.

Third Party Applications

If you laptop does not come with a pre-installed application for monitoring its temperature, you can download a third party application. One such program is MobileMeter, a system monitoring application developed specifically for laptops. Free to download and use, it will track and monitor your CPU and hard drive’s temperature. One downside to using this application is that it does dell Inspiron 500m battery strain system resources.

Download the MobileMeter from Softpedia, and unzip the compressed file.

Open and run the executable file

MobileMeter will display your laptop’s current CPU and hard drive temperature as well as its processor frequency and battery power.

Feel The Laptop’s Body

Place your hand on the body of the laptop dell Inspiron 510m battery , ideally over the hard drive. If it is uncomfortably hot, then it is likely that your laptop is overheating. Similarly, if the laptop feels hot in your lap or leaves the surface it is placed on uncomfortably hot, then it is likely to be overheating.

If a laptop begins to run sluggishly and under-perform or if its hard drive begins thrashing, the problem may also be as a result of overheating.

What to Do if Your Laptop Gets Overheated

Check its vents to ensure they are not clogged with dirt and lint, in which case you need to clean them.

Make sure that the laptop’s placement is not resulting in its vents being obstructed by any dirt or foreign dell Inspiron 600m battery objects.

Run fewer programs at the same time, particularly graphics-heavy video games or playing a DVD.

Power down for a period of time to allow the laptop to cool down.

How to Disassemble a Laptop - Removing and Taking Apart the LCD

Leave a commentSome of the most common accidental damage that happens to a laptop Laptop Battery is screen cracking. This can happen from mishandling the laptop, occur during drops, or even accidental gentle bumps. You can replace the screen yourself if you laptop is not under warranty.

Keyboard Area

In this section of our laptop disassembly guide we discuss how to remove the laptop screen component from the base, as well as how to remove just the LCD screen for replacement (or for any other reason you can think of). Please heed the safety precautions dell laptop battery and other warnings in part one of this series.

Keyboard Bezel

The first thing that needs to come off is the plastic bezel above the keyboard. In every laptop battery I've ever seen, this is a removable piece, and the gateway into the rest of the machine. On Dell laptops, you can simply pry it up and off from the side (there is almost always a convenient indent in the bezel for battery this purpose). On some HP and Gateway models, there are very small screws in the bottom of the laptop that are holding this bezel on, often inside the battery cavity. As a rule of thumb, you should never have to "force" anything. If it isn't coming up from reasonably gentle prying, then look for dell Inspiron 700m battery screws.

The Keyboard

The next thing we need to remove is the keyboard. In some machines, once the bezel is up the keyboard will slide or tilt up and out. In others (like most Dell laptops) the keyboard itself is screwed in. If it is screwed in, the location of the screws should be pretty clear, at the top of the keyboard. Make sure you keep your keyboard screws with the keyboard, or in some way note them to ensure they don't get mixed up with the rest.

The Screen

The next part we're going to be dell Inspiron 710m battery removing is the screen. Most screens have this design: inside the battery screen bezel is an LCD sandwiched between two heavy metal brackets. These brackets connect via 2-6 screws to the base of the laptop. The screen receives its image through a heavy wide cable that plugs into the motherboard underneath the keyboard, and almost always has a grounding screw nearby. To remove the screen, first unplug the cable to the screen, and unscrew the grounding wire (if applicable). Since most battery wireless card antennas are located in the screen, you will likely have to disconnect the wires to the card (if you haven't already done so) and/or feed them through from the bottom.

For the next step, lay the screen all the way back. Unscrew all the screws that are attaching the screen brackets to the laptop base. The screws may be in the top near the hinge, in the back, and on bottom. It just depends on the laptop. Once everything is unscrewed, the screen should simply lift apart. Make sure you keep track of what screws go dell F5136 battery where.

Continue reading about screens only if, for some reason, you need to remove the LCD from the frame.

To remove the LCD from the screen section of the laptop, you'll first need to remove the front plastic bezel. Oftentimes, this is held on by screws hidden underneath adhesive rubber pads. You can remove these pads with your pry tool. Once you've removed the front bezel screws, you will need to again use your pry tool to separate the front bezel from the backpanel. Sometimes, this is no easy task, as some laptop manufacturers (Gateway is one example) like to use glue or other adhesive to hold it on. Avoid bending the bezel too much while prying around the edges, as it is usually not very flexible and can crack.

After you've removed the front bezel you should be able to see where the metal brackets attack to the backpanel, and also battery to the LCD. Be very careful with the LCD - they can easily crack or become damaged if mishandled. Unscrew the the brackets from the dell 312-0306 battery backpanel and lift out the LCD and brackets. Do not wrap your fingers around the back of the LCD. If you carefully flip it over, you will see a large strip of the LCD is very boldly marked DO NOT TOUCH. I highly recommend that you avoid touching it at all costs. Now all that is left is to unscrew the brackets from the LCD, and you're done disassembling the laptop screen.

On treating your laptop, iPod, and iPhone batteries right

By Iljitsch van Beijnum | Last updated August 8, 2007 10:51 AM CTText Size Print this article Leave a Laptop Battery comment Although progress in battery capacity is snail-like compared to the progress in energy consumption of the devices powered by batteries, rechargeable batteries have come a long way the past decade or two. All current Apple laptops, iPods, and the iPhone use lithium ion or lithium polymer rechargeable batteries. Apart from spontaneous combustion (which is rare), the main problem with rechargeable batteries is that they lose their capacity over time. This is especially worrisome with devices like the iPod and the iPhone where the battery isn't easily replaceable. So what can we do to keep dell laptop battery our lithium batteries in good health until old age?

Apple has a battery page that has some general information about the way lithium batteries are charged and discharged. They stress that you should charge your batteries early and often, rather than let them drain (almost) completely. For the purpose of battery wear, several partial charge cycles count as one full charge cycle. A battery should still have 80 percent capacity dell Latitude C610 battery after the equivalent of 500 full charge cycles.

Apple also has pages that go into detail about battery issues for notebooks (they carefully avoid calling them "laptops"), the iPod family, and the iPhone. One recommendation is that you "keep the electrons flowing" by working on the battery from time to time—at least once a month. And you need to run on the battery until the device sleeps once every 30 cycles or so to make sure that the charge indicator stays in sync with the actual battery dell Latitude C640 battery capacity.

For each type of devices, there is an optimum temperature range that the batteries like, which is 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 35 Celsius) for the iPhone and the iPods, and 50 to 95 F (10 to 35 C) for laptops. I can personally attest to the fact that when it's freezing outside, an iPod's battery charge will seem to disappear into the cold, thin air. Although the batteries will work fine under more tropical conditions, the problem with that is that they age prematurely. According to BatteryUniversity.com, it's a public secret that lithium batteries start losing their capacity as soon as they're manufactured, but this dell 1691P batteryprocess is greatly accelerated by two factors: a high temperature and a full charge. This is probably the reason why laptop batteries can be completely worn out after a few years: the battery is completely charged most of the time, and the insides of a computer generate a lot of heat.

When I got a PowerBook almost four years ago, I wanted to keep the battery in as good a shape as possible, so I tried to avoid going through too many charge cycles. I averaged less than three a month. But I still only have 1600 milli-amp-hours left, which is less than half the original capacity. But the second battery that I got 2.5 years ago, which has seen about two charge cycles a month, is still at 4200 mAh, 95% or its original capacity. Apple's laptop batteries have a dell 75UYF battery voltage rating of 10.8 V, so multiply the mAh capacity by 10.8 and divide by 1000 to get rid of the milli, and you'll have the capacity in Watt hours.

This difference probably has something to do with advances in battery manufacturing, but I'm attributing most of it to the fact that I keep this battery in the refrigerator with about half a charge when it's not in use, while the original battery occupies the battery slot in the PowerBook. Moral of the story: the toasty underside of your laptop will prematurely age the battery anyway, so trying to avoid charge cycles is probably not worth the effort. If you have a second battery, store it in the fridge (not the freezer) at 40 percent charged when you're not using it. But most of all: keep your electronics out of the sun dell 5081P battery and especially out of parked cars.

Inside a notebook battery pack

Ever wondered what exactly is inside your notebook's battery dell laptop battery pack? We take the cover off a typical example, and explain how it can, occasionally, burst into flames.

Lithium ion batteries aren't so much popular in modern mobile IT as essential. The unique combination of low mass, small size and high power storage capabilities makes the technology as much part of notebook and mobile phone design as liquid crystal displays and high-impact plastic.

Those same attributes make lithium ion dangerous. The amount of energy needed to keep a notebook as warm as toast for four hours will melt steel if it's expressed in a few Laptop Battery seconds -- and a damaged Li-ion battery can dump power that fast. The damage can be external, as when an impact deforms the case, or it can be due to manufacturing defects. Many dangerous situations are avoided by the internal geometry of the cells and smart support electronics -- there's far more to modern battery design than you may think.

Anatomy of a Li-Ion notebook battery dell Inspiron 4000 battery

The most impressive part of lithium ion batteries isn't that they can go catastrophically wrong, but that they only do so rarely -- one or two times per million units per year. Here's what's inside the case, keeping you safe and your notebook running.

Temperature sensors

When assembled, these two arms run alongside two of the cells in the battery stack (see inset, above), monitoring the overall pack temperature. If this reaches a high level for whatever reason, the electronics isolates the batteries from charging or discharging. The notebook may also have temperature sensors in the battery dell Inspiron 4100 battery compartment, feeding its own safety systems.

Lithium ion cell

One of eight in the example above, this contains about six watt-hours of energy. That translates to two kilowatts over ten seconds, a rate of discharge that's theoretically possible under some fault conditions. Excessive heating in one cell can cause the failure of the next, and so on, an avalanche effect that leads to the energetic destruction of the entire pack.

Voltage converter/regulator circuit

This maintains safe levels of voltage and dell Inspiron 2500 battery current during charging and discharging. Although it's designed to spot dangerous conditions and prevent cell damage by shutting down the battery pack, component faults here can actually increase the risk of catastrophic failure.

Notebook connector

This is shrouded and designed to minimise the risk of short circuits when the battery pack is separate from the main equipment. Even if the plastic shroud is damaged, the circuitry inside the pack should detect short circuit conditions and protect the cells from rapid discharge.

Voltage tap

Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery dell Latitude CPX battery , but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.

Battery charge state monitor

Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.

More information about battery control technology can be found at the industry forum for the Smart Battery dell Latitude C600 battery System specification.

HOW-TO: Rebuild your laptop battery

Admit it. Come out of denial. You know your laptop Laptop Battery that was supercool 2 years ago now gets 15 minutes of battery life. It sucks and we all share the same problem eventually. Laptop batteries (and many others) will start to lose their total charging capacity after awhile. It's slow so we usually don't notice it until years later. But when it happens, you can't help but go insane. Laptop batteries usually cost a fortune (my 12-inch powerbook battery is like $130). This is why you should take the road less traveled and rebuild your battery dell laptop battery .

So what do you have to do? Well its not too complicated, you just have to basically replace the individual cells inside of the battery casing. Ever have an R/C car and you had to buy those $20 battery packs at Radio Shack for them? Well if you take a close look, its usually just 6 batteries saran-wrapped together with a proprietary plug. Same goes for these laptop batteries.

Now before we go any further, let me issue a warning. Although most of us think were invincible, were not. This is something that could lead to harm if you dont follow dell G5260 battery everything directly. If youre new to hacking apart electronics and what not, dont proceed. Have a specialist help you. Were not responsible for anything that may happen, mkay? Kay.

Allright so lets get started. Take your fork out of the electrical socket for a moment and check it.

Remove your battery from your laptop. Try to get it drained all the way if you can. Look at the label on your battery. Somewhere near the warning where it says Dont do this, dont do thatblah blah blah you should see a model number for the battery dell G5266 battery pack. Probably something along the lines of Lithium Ion Battery Pack No. Pry off the cover of your battery pack like so.

....which will reveal something like below.

Individual cells.

If you have a powerbook like me, itll look like this:

So. Now weve got a bunch of cells. Cute. Find the part number for them. As you can see in the pic above the powerbook battery, the number is printed directly on the wrapping. In this case its CGP345010. Ok great. Whats that mean? Google it and see. Ahhh! Its made by Panasonic. Wonderful. Now we have to go get replacements. If theres 6 cells, youll obviously need 6 new ones. Try dell Latitude CPi battery this website for ordering them.

Get out your xacto knife, wire cutters, etc. for this. Youll need to carefully remove all the cells. Each battery pack is different so we cant say how itll work out for you. Just be careful and dont throw away the old ones.

Take out all the metal contacts etc. until you have yourself a blank battery dell Inspiron 8200 battery tray.

Chances are your battery cells will come with wires on there for connecting it to something. No. We dont want these. We need this to lay in the tray! Remove your black and red wires but keep any others left. Its usually to keep them from short-circuiting. Next, take any coating and tops off your old batteries and move them carefully onto the new ones. After youre done, you should have naked old batteries, and new batteries that look like the old ones.

Next, you need to get contact going. Obviously using metal. You can either solder them together properly with a metal strip on the front, or just try positioning the metal dell Inspiron 8000 battery correctly inside the case with the cells. I did the 2nd method and it worked for me after some tinkering around.

Almost there. Put everything back together like it was and make sure you check out your finished product with a multimeter to make sure theres a current. If all is well, throw it all back together and then into your laptop. Charge it up completely without using it and voila. You my friend, are set.

Much thanks to electronics lab, and reader [surfer] for the tips and pics! In my dell Inspiron 8100 battery opinion, the PowerBook battery is much easier, but dont let that stop you! Just take care!

Reduce the methanol permeability of hydrocarbon membranes

In January 19, 2005 Tokyo International Exhibition Center BigSight opening of the laptop battery dell laptop battery "1st International Fuel Cell Exhibition", the approach can reduce the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) the phenomenon of widespread infiltration of methanol (methyl alcohol by the very side of fuel to the infiltration of the air side of the phenomenon of extremely) of hydrocarbon-type electrolyte membrane appeared one after another. It is understood that the Hitachi Chemical Industries, Japan and Germany Hill, Mitsui Chemical, Nitto Denko and synthesis in East Asia toshiba battery dell Inspiron E1705 battery such electrolyte membrane exhibited.

Hitachi Chemical Industries of the film on display, compared to the last category of fluoride membrane, the methanol permeability reduced to 1 / 100 (Figure 1). At 30 ℃ for 10% concentration of methanol, the methanol permeability for 0.002kg m2 / h, and the fluorine-type membranes, compared with 0.6kg m2 / h. "Even at 60 ℃ can achieve the same level" (Hitachi Chemical Industry), membrane resistance (thickness divided by the proton conductivity) is also "slightly more than F-type membrane" (Hitachi Chemical Industry). The company originally envisaged for the use of the concentration of 10 ~ 20% of methanol, and the successful development of this film. However, the company said will continue to Laptop Battery develop in order to achieve the use of methanol and water, such as grams of weight, that is, around 60% concentration of methanol, it was introduced at this time the most efficient use.

Japan and Germany show the membrane Hill, compared to fluorine-type membranes, methanol permeability can be reduced to 1 / 5 ~ 1 / 10. Film Resistors (3 mol / L of sulfuric acid when the exchange frequency of 1kHz resistance), the film thickness 30μm the "BCM-210" for 0.18Ω cm2, film thickness 32μm the "BCM-211" for 0.14Ω cm2. Proton conductivity and fluoride alleged essentially the same type of membrane. Mitsui Chemicals has also exhibited in relation to fluoride-type membrane, methanol permeability of about 1 / 10, the same proton conductivity of the aromatic hydrocarbon membrane. East Asia is also on display in the synthesis of polyolefin porous membrane filled with a hydrocarbon in the hydrocarbon electrolyte membrane, methanol permeability of the membrane for the fluorine-type dell Inspiron 6000 battery 1 / 5 ~ 1 / 10.

Nitto Denko is a display by the F-type material and hydrocarbon material from the membrane complex. Fluoride-like materials by electron beam irradiation, so that at the turn of Union (Cross Linking). After electron beam irradiation, separation and hydrogen fluoride, together with the hydrocarbon material to sulfonation. Methanol concentration of 40% of the conditions, the methanol permeability of the membrane for the fluorine-type 1 / 5. Proton conductivity at this time with the same fluorine-type membranes.

In addition, Nitto Denko will also be on display dell Inspiron 9300 battery as the East Asia as in the synthesis of porous-type vector paraffin hydrocarbon distribution of the electrolyte membrane electrolyte. Mainly used for this membrane-type solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC), the penetration of hydrogen fluoride type film down to 1 / 6 of the following, but also to meet the requirements of DMFC electrolyte membrane. On the other hand, the above described hydrocarbon DMFC membrane can be used applied to PEFC, for example, Japan has launched Deshan material design using the same technology developed hydrocarbon toshiba tecra a7 battery, toshiba tecra s2 battery membrane with PEFC.

These hydrocarbon-type electrolyte membrane are lower than the cost It is learned that fluoride type film. When mass production, Hitachi Chemical, said, "To achieve fluoride membrane-type 1 / 10 or so," Hill said Japan and Germany, "F-type film about 1 / 5 or so, but is expected to down to 1 / 10 ~ 1 / 20." Nitto Denko said "the cost must be lower than the fluoride dell Inspiron 9400 battery type film."

In order to improve the type of electrolyte membrane and electrode affinity binder in the electrode material, the mountain and Japan and Germany put forward a Mitsui Chemicals program using hydrocarbons. DMFC and PEFC electrodes will be a catalyst for the use of adhesives and supports (carbon) made of cement. However, if the adhesive between the electrolyte membrane with poor affinity, the adhesive will drop. The past, the electrolyte membrane electrode also as adhesives, usually used fluoride-like materials. Japan's Mitsui Chemicals and Tokuyama, taking into account of this affinity, the on proposed hydrocarbon binder

Etching method to produce fuel cell separators

A few days ago in the "First International Fuel Cell Exhibition" (January 19, 2005 ~ 21, Tokyo International Exhibition Center BigSight), the display processing technology using etching metal samples of the fuel cell separator. "Compared with the stamping process, the shape of flow more accurate way to raise about a few" (the company). Cost than the stamping process, but a shorter delivery time than the stamping process is more suitable for small batch production of small partitions.

Etching process, the thicker plate the greater dell 310-6321 battery the amount of etching, so not suitable for the production of a large partition. Therefore, the technology for notebook PC, mobile phone and other small partition production equipment. It is now more than Precision Industry Company Hirai trial related products.

In addition, the stamping process in a short period of time should be more. However, because the processing needs of stamping die, when in small batch production, but rather etching process can be delivered more quickly. It also depends on the costs of production scale, the use of smaller quantities etching processing, a greater use of time stamping die to create processing, can effectively reduce dell 310-6322 battery costs. Of course, also subject to other conditions, but in general, about 10,000 in the use of etching process, when more than this number of stamping process is used.

The new fuel cell mobile phone calls can be two hours watching TV

A display of staff on January 21 in Tokyo at the International Fuel Cell Expo to display KDDI and its fuel-cell phone batteries used in methanol solution. Cooperative R & D battery, according to Hitachi said that the dell battery, dell latitude d620 battery. The prototype cell phone talk time is about 2-3 hours while watching dell D5318 battery TV.
